It is hardly reasonable to even suggest that FC Barcelona is not competitive in its current state. La Blaugrana may not have the financial prowess they once did, but their sporting demands remain as high as ever. Even in desperate times like these, Barcelona continues to expect the highest level of consistency from their players.
Understandably, not every player is going to have a chance to feature consistently with the first team. Even the most talented of youngsters from the youth categories often feel lucky just to have a few outings here and there. However, sending a first-team player down to the lower categories is not a possible solution for others.
That is why the case of Brazilian forward Vitor Roque remains as complex and as frustrating as it is. While the 19-year-old South American striker originally wanted to leave behind his struggles from last season and instead hoped to impress Hansi Flick during this preseason, the reality of his situation has become quite the opposite.
Now, with Barcelona even looking for a way out for him, it becomes clear that Flick does not exactly consider him a part of his plans. However, if that was not clear enough, SPORT has highlighted yet another showing of Flick’s lack of faith in the player now.
This time around, even with a depleted Barcelona team against Real Madrid, the Brazilian forward hardly played. In fact, the youngster only showed up for close to 15 minutes in the last stretch of the game. Moreover, with hardly anything to show for himself in those limited minutes, it seems that the player is condemned even further.
Previously, he failed to show any special quality or display during the game against Manchester City. Now, with another failed performance against Real Madrid, it is hardly a surprise that Barça continues to lose faith in his ability to have a presence in the team moving forward.
As such, the door has now been shown to the player despite his own desire to stay. The plan remains to find a suitable solution for Roque and the club before the end of this summer and a decision will likely be made before the return of the team from the pre-season tour.
