FC Barcelona and Manchester City have already advanced their ongoing negotiations in terms of the arrival of a particular Portuguese star to the Catalan giants in Spain, in what is set to be a great asset to Barcelona moving forward.
This specific case does not refer to Bernardo Silva however, the 28-year-old Portuguese midfielder who continues to be a fundamental piece of Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City despite having been a priority for FC Barcelona over the course of the summer.
In actuality, it is the transfer of 29-year-old Portuguese fullback Joao Cancelo that has now reached very advanced stages in terms of negotiations between Barcelona and Manchester City as the two clubs now look to finalize the deal within this week and see the right-back arrive in Spain.
However, according to Spanish outlet SPORT, there exists one minor ambiguity in terms of the optional purchase fee that is set to be applied at the end of the loan year at Barcelona, with both the Catalans and the Citizens having different amounts in mind.
According to Manchester City, a season without disruption in FC Barcelona could result in the fullback’s evaluation improving and his market value increasing by the summer of 2024 and as a result, they have demanded the purchase fee be in the regions of €45 million.
On the other hand, Barcelona are clear that the only way a purchase would be feasible for them would be if the asking price was set at a maximum of €25 million, which is what the Catalan giants are willing to offer at the end of the loan year.
Despite the obvious dispute, SPORT believes that this will not be a major issue in terms of the entirety of the negotiations between Barcelona and Manchester City, as it will potentially be solved and sorted out sooner rather than later as both entities hope to wrap the operation up this week.
