Barcelona and Messi: Homecoming feelings remain positive

FC Barcelona and Lionel Messi is a topic that remains relevant even today following his prior departure in 2021. The news that a potential homecoming may genuinely be happening for the Argentine has spread like wildfire and for a very valid cause.

The recent FIFA World Cup winner and current player of Paris Saint Germain has reportedly stalled contract negotiations with his current club and some reports even suggest that the talks have completely broken down. Despite the lucrative offer that they provide the player, he remains unconvinced on a sporting level.

This potentially comes as a result of PSG’s exit from the UEFA Champions League at the hands of Bayern Munich. Moreover, the ex-Barcelona star has also not made any advancements towards a potential move to either the United States of America, the MLS to be specific, or even towards his offers from Saudi Arabia, which reportedly includes a €400 million offer from Al Hilal.

The player is motivated to stay in Europe beyond the conclusion of the 2022/2023 season when his contract with PSG inevitably expires. Those within the Barcelona dressing room remain adamant and excited for the player to make his way home as per the recent reports from SPORT. From the likes of those that have played alongside him, to even those that have not, such as Robert Lewandowski, everyone seems eager to have Messi join his boyhood club back.

Xavi Hernandez in particular remains positive about the player and insists he would fit into his system, claiming him to be the best player in the world. The players at the club are also believing that he comes back, looking beyond it being impossible and instead just a matter of time.

Barcelona president Joan Laporta also seems to be working behind the scenes to make this transfer happen and bring the club’s greatest-ever player back to where he belongs, donning the Blaugrana colors.

The President’s determination, the manager’s insistence, the Barca players’ excitement, and the will of the Argentine all remain decisive factors when it comes to this operation. Financial Fair Play and the antagonism of Javier Tebas remain arguably the biggest and only hurdles yet to overcome to welcome La Pulga back to Barcelona.
