Despite the economic difficulties faced by FC Barcelona over the last couple of seasons, the Catalan club has not been deterred from inquiring about and even acquiring some of the most well-renowned players across Europe.
Acquisitions like Robert Lewandowski from Bayern Munich, Raphinha from Leeds United, and even Jules Kounde from Sevilla seemed improbable at a point, but Barcelona managed to surprise most when they confirmed their respective signings.
Now, it seems that Barcelona will once more dive deep and inquire about one of European football’s most renowned gems who appears to be on the verge of leaving his current French abode.
As per French outlet L’Equipe, FC Barcelona are interested in finding out details about the potential transfer fee that could see out-of-favour Paris Saint-Germain star Kylian Mbappe make his way to Catalonia.
The report states that Barcelona and PSG have scheduled talks to discuss the potential intricacies of the operation and the overall feasibility of said hypothetical transfer.
The 24-year-old forward remains one of the highest-valued players in world football. Having already won the World Cup in 2018 and having given a performance of a lifetime in the 2022 edition, the player is understandably considered a generational talent.
However, with tensions high between the Parisian club and their 24-year-old French superstar, both entities look to be on the path of parting ways. Moreover, several clubs across Europe are now interested in negotiating for the Frenchman.
Barcelona remain in no financial position to fully fund the significant transfer fee that PSG are understood to be considering for their most valuable asset. As a result, they offer alternatives in the form of players being included in the deal to bring down the value of the transfer fee, as per the report.
At the moment, Barcelona are only interested in dipping their toes in the water and attempting to understand the capacity that such a huge transfer would entail on both economic and sporting levels.
