Barcelona and star midfielder reject Man Utd approach yet again – report

FC Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong remains one of the transfer market’s hot topics. Following an incredible resurgence in the Blaugrana midfield, it is no surprise to see him being labeled as a sought-after asset.

The Dutchman has been with the Catalans since 2019, but it is only recently that he has truly been considered one of the crucial cogs of the team. This status has further extended to an untouchable tag as Barcelona do not intend to entertain any offers for him.

According to Mundo Deportivo, after a drawn-out saga last summer with Barcelona looking to offload Frenkie, Manchester United have entered the picture again. However, this time the Blaugranes are unwilling to cash out on the midfielder, deeming him too important to the squad, contrary to his situation previously.

The report argues that Manchester United coach Erik ten Hag considers Frenkie as a game changer, with whom he remains obsessed. Ten Hag tried to convince the Dutch international, but has found little luck with his persuasion.

Despite United’s insistence, neither the player nor Barcelona are interested to part ways. The club value Frenkie’s presence in a double pivot, which is a system that depends a great deal on the Dutchman’s adventurous presence. Moreover, Frenkie has always hoped to find continuity at the club of his dreams.

Additionally, Frenkie and his wife are expecting a child, which will further add to his motivation of staying in Barcelona, where he already has a settled family.

Although Barcelona are sure to benefit financially from the sale of De Jong and reports earlier claimed the club may consider his departure if push comes to shove, the Catalan giants place great importance on the player from a sporting perspective.
