FC Barcelona continues to be a home to some of European football’s most exciting and talented players. Whether or not they play according to those talents is a matter of form, not of class. However, there are definitely a few players at Barcelona who continue to ignite debates about their importance.
More often than not, these players are typically the veterans of the team that are underperforming according to expectations. One of them, rather unsurprisingly, is Polish striker Robert Lewandowski, whose current season is not reflective of his great career and scoring record.
With 14 goals and 6 assists in 31 games, Lewandowski is not exactly having a poor season as per general standards. However, his standards are different from the general ones, and according to those, he definitely does not look to be at his best.
Yet, according to SPORT, those within FC Barcelona have never doubted the Pole. They believe that the 35-year-old still has a lot to give to the club and they are more than willing to accommodate him for a third season. Even though this third season of his will see his salary spike exponentially, Barcelona are willing to stay true to their commitment.
Moreover, even Lewandowski himself knows the possibility of the club going for a revamp in the summer. This could bring about some exciting new additions and changes to the club, and he believes he can be a useful asset to La Blaugrana. As he showcased in the recent victory over Alaves, perhaps he still has his finishing touch with him.
The club continues to respect his wishes, as they maintain a good relationship with both the player and his agent, Pini Zahavi. If Lewandowski wishes to continue leading the team, Barcelona are more than willing to stick with him. However, if he sees a suitable offer arrive from elsewhere, the club is willing to accommodate that as well.
Barcelona understand the sacrifice and efforts made by Lewandowski to arrive in Catalonia. Taking a direct stand against Bayern Munich is not easy, and leaving behind his comfort zone was a big step for the Polish striker. Just as he became Joan Laporta’s marquee signing, he remains an important player for the team even now.
