There are several positions that FC Barcelona will want to strengthen once they return to the 1:1 rule. The Catalans are hopeful that they will be able to return to this status in the coming few months, and this will allow them to go into the upcoming transfer windows with greater strength.

One of the positions that the Blaugranes are looking to reinforce is that of center-forward, where only Robert Lewandowski is the team’s trusted option. However, the Pole’s contract expires next year, and although there is a clause of a conditional automatic extension, Lewandowski is also quite advanced in age, and the Catalans will have to look for his successor sooner or later.

As Vitor Roque is looking increasingly less likely to be this person, Barcelona will have to go into the market to find the Pole’s successor. One of the options liked by the Catalans is Viktor Gyokeres, but he might be too expensive for them.

In such circumstances, SPORT reports that another player who has caught the attention of the Barcelona sporting area is the Lille striker Jonathan David, whose contract is expiring in 2025, and who does not seem to be too keen to sign a renewal despite the efforts made by his club.

The 24-year-old Canadian forward has become one of the big stars of Ligue 1 and is also one of the top scorers in Europe right now. He signed for LOSC back in 2020 and has grown gradually at the French club. He stands out with his physicality and versatility across the attacking line, but his best position is that of a center-forward.

The €50 million-rated forward’s contractual situation provides a great market opportunity for the big European clubs. Juventus have been the most active in his pursuit, while Barcelona are collecting information about him and watching him carefully.
