Earlier this month, FC Barcelona returned to their familiar 1:1 status, which has given them the opportunity to focus on negotiating new contracts for several key first-team players whose current deals are set to expire soon.

Before making any new signings, the Blaugranas are prioritizing extensions for those whose contracts are nearing their end, and among these, there are several important players with contracts expiring in the summer of 2026.

The standout names in this group are Ronald Araujo, Pedri, Gavi, Lamine Yamal, and Frenkie de Jong. In fact, we recently reported that the club has already reached full agreements with Araujo and Pedri for new contracts that will keep them at the club until 2030.

Another player whose contract is set to expire in 2026 is goalkeeper Inaki Peña. According to Mundo Deportivo, the Catalan club is eager to sit down with Peña soon to discuss his future at the club.

Peña has stepped in for the injured Marc-André ter Stegen admirably this season. Despite initial doubts about his ability, his performances have been reassuring, and the young goalkeeper appears to have a promising career ahead of him.

The 25-year-old plays a crucial role in Hansi Flick’s system, with his natural sweeping instincts allowing him to cover the space behind the defense effectively. FC Barcelona certainly missed his presence in their match against Benfica last night.

PenPeñaa is a product of La Masia, born and raised at the club, and would undoubtedly like to continue his association with Barcelona. His performances have been more than enough to provide genuine competition to the German shot-stopper, even once he returns.

It remains to be seen whether Peña will sign a new contract. His performances have undoubtedly caught the attention of clubs across Europe, so we’ll have to wait and see how this situation unfolds.
