FC Barcelona are currently negotiating with various players regarding renewals and their current contractual situations. The Catalan club is focused on maintaining quality within their squad, however, they are also looking ahead. In order to ensure a competitive team in the future, La Blaugrana are targeting a few specific profiles.

A chief target amongst them is Spanish forward Dani Olmo. On Barcelona’s radar for quite a while at this point, the player was especially being considered during the winter window of last season, but his move eventually could not materialize as Barcelona chose to pursue the signing of Ferran Torres for around €55 million instead.

The latter was understood to have a similar profile to that of Olmo’s, and that is why the acquisition of one meant that the acquisition of the other would be futile. Torres has failed to impress to a degree that his cost and expectations upon him had merited, yet Olmo continues to deliver.

He was arguably the best Spanish forward at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar and has been a consistent asset for RB Leipzig of Germany.

The player has thus far scored 4 goals and provided 6 assists this season for the Bundesliga side and continues to be a tough handle for opposition sides. With Barcelona hoping to bring in a player who is comfortable both on the wings and the central channels, Dani Olmo presents himself as a very desirable option.

The main concern however remains the price tag. If Barcelona were to run after the player in this upcoming transfer window, they would be expected to pay up an amount of around €40 million minimum. This cost is unimaginable for Barcelona right now, as they are quite restricted due to financial fair play.

All of these current constraints have been conveyed to Dani Olmo himself, however, who Barcelona held direct contacts with even including Xavi himself. The player has therefore been requested not to renew with the German club come 2024, when the player’s contract expires in June of that year as per the reports of Mundo Deportivo.

This would allow FC Barcelona to fully pursue his signing in 2024 and avail the opportunity to snatch away this talented player as a free agent.

FC Barcelona will want to conclude this potential target’s decision soon, however, as other clubs are interested in the player as well. These clubs are also willing and able to pay the demands of RB Leipzig to guarantee his services, and these clubs include the likes of Real Madrid and Bayern Munich as chief amongst them.
