FC Barcelona are in the middle of a challenging financial debacle, which has forced the club to explore creative solutions to reduce costs. Wage reduction for certain players seems to be on the horizon with reports mentioning the names of two summer arrivals.

Barcelona’s hierarchy after rigorous discussions with the financial experts, is working consistently to reduce their current wage bill by 200 million in order to comply with LaLiga’s Financial Fair Play rules and regulations. Some of the expected measures to realize this gigantic target have been initialized already but a lot needs to be done to tackle the issues faced by the club for balancing their books.

Even the squad players who have been at the Catalan club for less than a year did not find an exception to this sudden barrage and have not escaped the salary reduction discussions. As per recent reports from SPORT, the club’s management approached Ivorian maestro Franck Kessie and ex-Chelsea man, Andreas Christensen regarding a salary cut but the player’s responses were not particularly receptive.

The commitment of both of the players cannot be questioned, given that they joined the team last summer window on free transfers, despite lucrative offers from their previous clubs. On top of that, they chose to don the Blaugrana jersey with the knowledge of the club’s poor financial condition, showcasing their love for the club above everything else.

Kessie and Christensen have been aware of the club’s complicated financial situation, but they also recognize that the economic capacity was similar when they joined last summer. Not even a full year has passed in their signed contracts and that’s why they believe it’s not the right time to entertain salary reductions. Will Barcelona find other venues to bring financial stability? We’ll get our answers soon.
