With FC Barcelona now focusing their attention on the upcoming summer transfer window to reinforce their squad for the coming season, one of the reinforcements that the club is most eager to make is that of a midfield pivot.

Oriol Romeu has not been able to convince the Catalan club with his performances, as Barcelona will once again go into the market to get their replacement for Sergio Busquets.

As already reported here, the Everton midfielder Amadou Onana is one of the players that the Barcelona Sporting Director, Deco, likes. The Portuguese official has been clear in a recent interview that the squad needs more physicality in the center of the pitch, and for this purpose, he is currently prioritizing the arrival of Onana.

However, getting him from a Premier League side will not be easy for the Catalans, as the player is currently valued at €60 million, and has a contract that goes till 2027. Furthermore, the 22-year-old is also attracting interest from other English clubs like Chelsea and Arsenal.

But as SPORT has noted, there is one way in which Barcelona can get the player on a discount in the coming summer window. Everton are currently occupying a relegation zone position in the Premier League table, as they faced a penalty that led to a deduction of 10 points.

Still, there are several games still to be played this season, and the Merseyside club is only two points below Nottingham Forest and Luton Town, and surpassing them will get Everton into a position of safety on the league table.

However, if Everton ends up getting relegated, Onana is likely to press the club to allow him to leave for another side, and the English side will be forced to sell him for a sum significantly less than €60 million. Barcelona and Deco will thus be keeping a close eye on the Premier League table to make a final decision on this pivot target.
