Barcelona can pay the full release clause to get their ‘absolute priority’ transfer target

FC Barcelona are already quite clear about the transfers they want to make in the upcoming summer transfer window. Apart from signing a midfield pivot, the Catalans are also prioritizing the signing of a forward to allow Hansi Flick to head into the next season with full strength.

In this regard, one of the names that has been closely linked to Barcelona in the last few months is the Athletic Club winger, Nico Williams. His name is an absolute priority as per a recent update provided by SPORT and he is the chosen one to reinforce the forward line of the Blaugranes.

The Catalans have also communicated to Nico’s entourage that they intend to do everything possible to sign him, but with their strained economic situation, this will not be an easy task for them.

Meanwhile, other difficulties also await the Catalan club, as they will be looking to negotiate with Athletic Club for his transfer, with whom the winger signed a contract renewal back in December 2023.

In this new contract, some sources claim that the release clause of the player was set at €50 million, while others believe that the sum would reach €60 million. Barcelona can offer the Bilbao club a sum even higher than Nico’s release clause if they can agree to a payment in installments.

However, the Basques are very reluctant to negotiate for the departure of any of their players and will have to make a decision if they want to cash in on such a valuable asset. In such a situation, the report from SPORT further states that Barcelona can pay the full release clause of the player this summer.

If they decide to take such a course, the Catalans will have to meet some financial conditions, so Barcelona fans will have to wait a while before the club can embark on such an operation.
