With their squad already very thin, FC Barcelona cannot sell any of their first-team players in this winter transfer window to generate any funds. However, there are some other possible avenues from which the club can get a boost to its coffers.
One such possible source that can help Barcelona financially is the sale of Barca Studios. The German Libero Fund has not paid the agreed-upon sum to the club and the Catalans are now looking to engage two other parties for a sale.
In addition to the sale of Barca Studios, another possible source of funds for the Blaugranes in the January window can be the sale of some of the former players of the club on whom the Catalans have a share of any future fee paid.
According to Mundo Deportivo, one such player who has a realistic chance of changing clubs this month is the Frenchman Jean Claire Todibo. The now 23-year-old, who currently plays for OGC Nice, is one of the main candidates for the Premier League side Manchester United as they look to strengthen their defense.
Although any deal has not been reached yet, Nice are open to selling the defender for a sum of around €60 million. If the two involved clubs reach an agreement around this sum, Barcelona will also get up to €12 million in their coffers, as they have a right to 20% of the fee paid for the defender.
Such a windfall will be highly welcome at Barcelona, as it would help the club bring in a midfielder in January that Xavi desires, and whose arrival can significantly alter the course of the season for Barcelona.
However, nothing is finalized for now, and the Catalans will be hoping a deal between Nice and United can be reached soon so they can finalize their own search for a midfielder.
