Some operations for FC Barcelona this summer will be prioritized over other ones. This is because of several reasons, ranging from financial prowess to timely urgency in regards to the operation in question. Ultimately, however, Barcelona does hope to get to each individual case one by one.
At the moment, all the attention seems to be focused on bringing Nico Williams to the club. Despite the recent contradicting reports about his arrival, there is a belief within the club that the operation for his arrival is still open but they continue to work on another deal just in case.
However, beyond just the focus on the Athletic Club winger and Dani Olmo of RB Leipzig, Barça have other priorities for this summer as well. While some of those priorities are focused towards bringing in a new midfielder, Barcelona are also interested in getting Joao Cancelo back from Manchester City.
Following the conclusion of his loan spell at the Catalan club, he has returned to his English club but his desire remains to once again represent Barça. This could still become a reality for both the club and the player, according to SPORT, but it will require the Portuguese fullback to be patient this summer.
That is because, despite Man City’s insistence on selling him as a permanent transfer, Barça are aware that they have a few factors working in their favor. The most major one is obviously the right-back’s preference itself to join Barcelona, but another key advantage that La Blaugrana have is the commitment of the player’s agent, Jorge Mendes, to bring him over to Barcelona.
Lastly, even the presence of Pep Guardiola is one that can be used to favor the team from Catalonia. Since the Spanish coach does not want Joao Cancelo to be part of his squad next season, and he insists on a good agreement being found between all concerned parties, it is possible that Barcelona could make a late grab for the player.
However, it must be remembered that it has to be a late grab due to Barça’s attention being on more time-sensitive transfer opportunities for now. In time, however, SPORT reports that Cancelo’s arrival can even happen at a very late stage of the transfer window. As a result of this, the club hopes that the 30-year-old Manchester City fullback can just hold on until then.
