The summer transfer window is reaching its conclusion, with FC Barcelona still looking to strengthen its squad. The Catalans have been looking to bring in a left-winger for the entirety of this transfer window and might have to address other positions as well in the remaining days of the market.
One such position could be the midfield pivot, as Oriol Romeu has left the club, and Flick’s preferred option for this position, Merc Bernal, has suffered a torn ACL which will keep him out of action for the rest of the season.
In such a situation, SPORT reports that one of the candidates that Barcelona can pursue to reinforce this position is the Frenchman Adrien Rabiot, who is currently without a club after having closed his time with the Italian side, Juventus.
The transfer market is ending in two days, but Barcelona still sign Rabiot in the coming two or three weeks as he is not yet bound to any other club. However, the Catalans will have to bring in a significant injection of cash and return to the 1:1 rule before being in a position to make such a move.
Currently, the €35-rated French midfielder is not a priority target for the Blaugranes. However, he is still on the agenda of some of the club’s sporting managers. His experience of top-flight football in Europe and his proven quality in midfield make him an alluring option for the Catalans.
As things stand, Barcelona are quite weak in midfield. Gavi and Frenkie are still out with injuries, while Gundogan and Romeu left the club this summer. Andreas Christensen, who played as a pivot in the latter stages of the last season, is also out with an injury, and Bernal is also ruled out for the rest of the season.
Thus, Rabiot’s name can gain more traction in the coming days. He has already been linked with other big sides like Liverpool, AC Milan, and Real Madrid, but none of these operations have been finalized yet.
