Ronald Araujo is facing a highly complex situation at FC Barcelona currently. He loves the club and wants to succeed here, and the Catalans also see him as a key part of their future project. However, the interest he is generating from other big clubs across Europe is making his presence at Barcelona highly uncertain.
The 24-year-old defender played only one half in the game against Celta de Vigo, and Xavi explained after the match that there was nothing to worry about regarding this substitution, as Araujo was not suffering from any injury, and had felt only discomfort.
While this physical problem will hopefully subside soon, his links away from the club might take a little longer to calm down.
For now, the defender is fully committed to Barcelona, and as Mundo Deportivo has reported, he showcased this commitment in a recent interview as well as he disclosed the interest that he had received from other La Liga sides in the past:
“I had the opportunity to join other teams in the league. They told me that Barcelona would include me in the B team and I had to choose. I told them I would go to Barcelona.”
While Araujo himself did not mention it, Mundo Deportivo revealed that one of the La Liga clubs interested in signing him was Getafe. The Madrid club was interested in signing the Uruguayan in 2018 when he was still an 18-year-old Boston River player in his native country.
In hindsight, Araujo’s decision to join Barcelona turned out to be the correct one, as he is now one of the highest-valued players in one of the biggest clubs in the world.
His progression since joining FC Barcelona was clearly on display in the last match, as he completed 95.5% of passes, and did not commit even a single foul for the time he was on the pitch.
