How Marc Andre Ter Stegen goes ahead with his recovery is one of the most intriguing questions coming out of FC Barcelona right now.
The German goalkeeper has been suffering from back discomfort ever since the last international break, and this has kept him from taking the pitch for La Blaugrana in the last two weeks, even in highly important matches like the one against Atletico Madrid.
As already reported here earlier, the goalkeeper was previously undecided on which approach to take for recovering from his injury. He has been undergoing conservative treatment since he got injured, but as no improvements have been observed, the club has been advising him to take a more decisive approach and go through surgery.
However, Ter Stegen needed to take his time to make such a decision, as he needed a lot of information, not only related to the sort of intervention needed but also about the involved surgeons and medical facilities.
Now, according to SPORT, the Barcelona captain has also made up his mind to take this approach suggested by the club, as he understands that going through the operating room would be the most pragmatic approach in these circumstances.
The veteran goalkeeper will need several days to recover even after this surgery is undertaken and is not expected to return to action till several weeks into 2024. Thus, he is likely to miss the entire Spanish Super Cup campaign, a number of matches in La Liga, and also the Copa del Rey qualifiers.
It is not yet clear whether the German shot stoper will be able to make it in time for the first leg of the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 tie. This match is scheduled to take place either on 13-14 or 20-21 of February.
