FC Barcelona have been able to successfully renew several important players in the last few weeks, and there are several more renewals set to be negotiated in the coming days.
However, one player whose contractual situation remains unsolved is Frenkie de Jong, whose contract is running out in 2026, but who is yet to arrive at an agreement for a new contract with the Blaugrana club.
The negotiations for this new contract have been going on for quite some time now, and previously were reportedly quite complicated. However, recent reports on the subject indicate that the midfielder is now more open to renewing.
This has been confirmed by the player’s own entourage, with whom Mundo Deportivo consulted to get an update on his status in the Barcelona team. The Dutchman’s entourage ensured that he is quite happy at the Catalan club and thus wants to remain linked with them even beyond the one-and-a-half year that remains on his current contract.
However, they do not want to negotiate a new contract now, and will rather wait till March or April to get a better idea of how the Blaugranes’ season pans out, and also to see how Frenkie himself performs in the coming weeks.
The report claims that the Dutch midfielder is quite happy with the confidence Hansi Flick has shown in him in the last few matches, but he also wants to win titles after having gone several years without a major trophy, barring the La Liga winning 2022-23 season.
Meanwhile, Barcelona themselves want to wait before embarking on another round of negotiations for Frenkie’s new contract, and want to start these talks after the end of the season. They mainly want to see how the Dutchman performs in the coming few months, and have already conveyed this to his agent, Ali Dursun.
