The goal of FC Barcelona remains as clear as ever heading into the remainder of the campaign. Success in every possible competition is expected and Barcelona aim to be competitive in each. However, there are definite hindrances in each pursuit of theirs.
For La Blaugrana, their upcoming games could be considered essential to their season. Having already overcome Porto in their first big test out of three, Barça have at least guaranteed progression in the UEFA Champions League.
However, with their next test being against Atletico Madrid, Barcelona need to be prepared. Yet, ahead of the game, Barcelona remain without the services of their captain and number one between the sticks.
As highlighted by SPORT, Marc Andre Ter Stegen still remains out of training. Having not taken part in the latest training session, pessimism about his availability in the next game continues to grow. His back pain seems to continue lingering, and it is undoubtedly stalling his return.
However, it is evident within Barcelona that the German goalkeeper will not be rushed. His return will be dictated by his own feelings and the discomfort that he is experiencing.
Moreover, with the solid performances of Inaki Pena in recent games, Barcelona feel reassured. While Atletico are undoubtedly a top-level opponent, Barça maintain faith in their back-up goalkeeper to get the job done.
For now, the presence of Ter Stegen is not completely ruled out. However, it seems probable that he will once again have to sit out an important game. In terms of a guaranteed absentee, only Gavi comes into the list.
Other players who did, however, join the training were certain youngsters. Xavi called upon the likes of Pau Cubarsi, Marc Casado, Angel Alarcon, Aleix Garrido, and Unai Hernandez to participate in the latest session. The Barcelona quarry continues to provide the first team with great talents, and Xavi hopes to take full advantage.
