FC Barcelona continues to put most of its faith in the upcoming generation and the prodigies of tomorrow. As showcased by Hansi Flick in recent days, the inclusion of youth players in his squad will become a normality within his team. However, this does not mean that Barcelona does not also rely on their veterans.
While it is understandable that as players age, their qualities no longer seem as apparently out of the ordinary as they may have some years ago. Instead, what they do gain in exchange for that is the invaluable experience of being a professional footballer for many years already.
Even as some stars may face criticism for their performances, their clubs continue to back them. Such is the case for Marc-Andre Ter Stegen, the first-choice Barcelona goalkeeper who will now also be the undisputed leader in goal for the German National team.
Having been renewed by the Catalan club back in 2023 until 2028, the German international has a lot of years left on his Barcelona contract. As highlighted by Fabrizio Romano, moreover, the player himself feels more than happy at Barcelona:
“I am very, very happy at Barça.”
He also talked about his future at the moment, and while he did not close any particular doors to a possible adventure elsewhere in the future, the player did seem to take a certain pride in being an undisputed leader at Barcelona for around 10 years now:
“We will see, but fundamentally, I am very, very satisfied at the moment with my contractual situation and the club where I have been active for more than a decade now.”
Despite certain lapses in performances and the understandable criticism that comes along with it, Ter Stegen retains the faith of both Barcelona and Hansi Flick. Moreover, he also seems to retain the faith of his teammates given that he is still the first captain of this squad.
