While Hansi Flick has been dealt some major injury blows this season, some wounds are from the past. Despite the losses that the German coach has had to bear witness to himself, there are others as well that he has inherited. In this case, the Barcelona coach remains rather unfortunate in terms of his fortunes.

Such injuries include the likes of Ronald Araujo, Gavi, Alejandro Balde, and others. Some of those players have been recovered but others continue to keep on working towards a return that typically has a projection or date in mind. However, then there is the complicated and frustrating case of Frenkie de Jong.

Previously, it was expected that the Dutch midfielder would recover by the end of the international break and could make his return to group training under Hansi Flick despite not undergoing surgery, something that had been recommended to him by both his advisors and the club itself.

Unfortunately, it seems that the expected return date that was previously being reported will not be met either. According to El Barça juga a RAC1, the player will not match the initial forecast and he will not be available for the upcoming La Liga clash against Girona nor will he be fit in time for the first UEFA Champions League game against AS Monaco.

Furthermore, there is still no fixed date regarding his recovery as the player continues to train alone and there are expectations as to when he will be able to train with the group once more. Moreover, the player remains committed to his initial stance that he will not be undergoing surgery despite the constant advice that suggests that he goes with it.

This whole issue is becoming a massive frustration for FC Barcelona to continue dealing with. Reportedly one of La Liga’s top earners, Frenkie de Jong’s absence is a hit that the Catalan club does not want to endure as it is both a financial loss as well as a sporting one.

Most people are aware of the Dutchman’s capabilities and his availability for Hansi Flick could give the German coach a great boost. Unfortunately, he has still not been able to take that step and his recovery continues to be a mess that continues to become less promising by the day.
