There is little to no doubt in the minds of FC Barcelona higher-ups that they must revamp the squad. The Blaugranes need to make specific signings to aid their cause, and are willing to make certain sacrifices for it. Before they do that, however, Barcelona have to prioritize which players they wish to pursue.

In that regard, the Catalan giants have a few positions on the table that they want to reinforce. The pivot position, as has been heavily reported, remains the major priority. However, the very next position that Barcelona may look to improve upon is the left wing, where a certain star from Athletic Club truly stands out for La Blaugrana.

Nico Williams, aged 21 and the younger brother of fellow Athletic Club forward Inaki Williams, is a player that Barcelona appreciates a lot. The young Spanish winger, with all his dare and magic, is exactly the kind of player Barça believe could help propel the team in the right direction.

As a result, according to Catalan reporter Gerard Romero (h/t Barca Centre), Barcelona have already taken the first steps to look at the feasibility of signing the player. Contacting the offices of La Liga, Barcelona have reportedly asked about the potential financial margins they will have to work with in the summer to have a better idea of the possibility of signing Nico Williams.

This does not come as a surprise, especially given the financial restrictions the club has had to deal with in recent times. To ensure that no last-minute problems arise if they ultimately pursue the Athletic Club forward’s signature, Barcelona will look to get all the guarantees from the league beforehand.

Nico, on the other hand, seems to look at a possible move favorably as well. While this is just speculation, what is factual is that the young winger has been exceptional and vital for his team this season. In his 35 appearances across all competitions, he has scored 7 goals and provided 16 assists during this campaign.

Beyond just his statistics, however, the Barcelona target also offers so much more. His dynamism, ability to take defenders head-on, and unbalancing style of play are exactly the kind of traits that Xavi Hernandez and FC Barcelona want in their wide forwards, and that is why his name is being linked to the club as such a high priority.
