The arrival of Vitor Roque has been the only move made by FC Barcelona in the current winter transfer window up to now. The Brazilian starlet had been signed by the Catalans in the last summer transfer window but has been incorporated into Xavi’s squad only this month.
Still only eighteen years old, Roque is expected to be a mainstay in the Barcelona attack for years to come. However, he is yet to make his mark in the club, and at this time, has Robert Lewandowski as his competitor in the frontline.
But despite Roque’s arrival, other movements in the market for promising strikers cannot be ruled out. In fact, according to SPORT, FC Barcelona’s scouts have been accompanying their counterparts from Fulham, Milan, and Chelsea in monitoring one of the hottest goalscorers in Europe this season, Vangelis Pavlidis.
The 25-year-old striker is setting the Eredivisie alight this season, as he has already scored eighteen goals in sixteen appearances. As a result of his performances this season, rumors about his imminent departure from AZ Alkmaar have been quite frequent in recent weeks.
When asked about a possible move to another club in the coming days, the striker refrained from giving any clear indications. However, he did admit that he is physically and mentally prepared to take the next step in his career.
Owing to his performances and the interest of some of the biggest clubs in Europe, the striker’s value has risen up to €25 million. Such an investment in a player of his quality can be justified, as in addition to the center-forward position, he can also play as a left-winger, and behind the striker as well.
However, he is yet to star for a top-level club, and it is unclear whether he will be able to maintain his performance under the highest pressures. FC Barcelona will have to keep monitoring the player for now, as he can emerge as an interesting option for their attack in the future.
