Some of the biggest stars to have played for FC Barcelona have come from South America, and the continent is still one of the biggest sources of talent for the Catalan club.
The Blaugranes always remain attentive to the high-potential talents arising in this part of the world, and showcased this fact by the signing of the Brazilian striker, Vitor Roque, last summer.
Since his signing, the Catalans have gotten their eyes on some other emerging South American talents as well, and according to SPORT, are about to close down the signing of another promising gem from Ecuador, Allen Obando.
A delegation from the Ecuadorian club, Barcelona S.C. de Guayaquil, traveled to Barcelona to meet with the board of the Catalan club, visit its training facilities, and finalize the potential move of the youngster.
One of the candidates for the presidency of the South American club himself shared the details of this visit with the media and shared that the delegation had been present in the stands during the match between Barcelona and Rayo Vallecano.
Although still only 17 years of age, Obando is already well acquainted with the First Division football in Ecuador, as he has been a part of the first team since his debut in 2022.
This season, he has provided two assists and scored one goal in seven LigaPro appearances. He has made another two appearances with his team in the Copa Libertadores this season.
Owing to such prominence at a very young age, several top clubs have been interested in him, including Paris Saint Germain, but Barcelona are the most advanced in negotiations for his transfer.
The Catalans have been keeping an eye on Obando for several months now, and hopefully, will be able to tie down this promising youngster this summer, after having missed out on other promising talents like Estevao Willian and Lucas Bergvall in recent months.
