FC Barcelona has already suffered key casualties this season under Hansi Flick’s command. Despite the German coach’s tactical expertise, which continues to help the team impress even with a depleted squad, there are still notable shortcomings. In particular, Barcelona clearly lacks much-needed depth.
The loss against CA Osasuna clearly highlighted this issue, and such a lack of depth could prove fatal in a season as long as this one. Therefore, it is crucial for Barcelona to recover their injured players as quickly as possible to strengthen the overall quality of the squad.
Fortunately for both Hansi Flick and the Catalan giants, some of their most important players are expected to return from injury after the international break. In case this happens, it would be a huge boost for a Barcelona side that is preparing itself to take part in such hugely important games.
Now, however, Mundo Deportivo reports yet another positive development. As per MD’s latest update, Hansi Flick may already be considering calling up 20-year-old Barcelona Golden Boy Gavi for the game against Sevilla in La Liga right after the international break.
Since November of last year, Gavi has been in recovery following his ACL and meniscus injury. Almost a year later, he is now participating actively in training again since making his return to the training pitch and his intensity continues to only go up without showing any signs of slowing down at any given point.
At this rate, it is perhaps the insistence of both Flick and the rest of Gavi’s entourage that the player has not already made his official return. Already raring to go in training, his return could end up coming sooner than expected against Sevilla if the Barcelona coach believes him to be ready.
Moreover, there is a certain belief within Barça, as per MD, that the game against Sevilla could be the perfect opportunity for Gavi to return. It will likely not be as demanding a game as the matches that come after it against the likes of Bayern Munich and Real Madrid, and since it is also at the Montjuic Stadium, it could be the right opportunity to see Gavi have a minor role in it.
However, Gavi’s return would not only be beneficial for sporting reasons. Beyond his technical quality and tenacity, his comeback would be crucial for team morale. Along with the potential returns of Dani Olmo and Fermin Lopez, Barcelona would feel much more confident and stronger with a more complete squad.
