The recent few weeks have not exactly been entirely positive for FC Barcelona. While the club has received good news on certain transfer fronts, they are not fully happy with each and every development. Especially from the perspective of injuries, Barcelona remains hardly too pleased.

The loss of both Pedri and Ronald Araujo came within a matter of days. Moreover, there are now doubts over the fitness of Dutch star Frenkie De Jong and his possible recovery. While Gavi continues to recover at a good pace, there is still some time left before he is actually available for Barcelona again.

This entire midfield dilemma now forces Hansi Flick and Barça into a tight corner. However, possibly as a consequence of this, another transfer decision has now had to be made. As highlighted by MARCA, Hansi Flick is not currently in favor of former Girona midfielder Oriol Romeu departing already this summer.

Instead, he wants the 32-year-old Spanish midfielder to travel with the team to the United States of America. On that pre-season tour, the Barcelona coach is willing to give Romeu a chance to prove himself as he believes that the player was unable to find continuity under Xavi Hernandez.

This decision has already reportedly been conveyed to the player’s agent as well in a recent meeting with Barcelona director Deco. Until then, the veteran Spanish midfielder will be helping Barça on their tour against the likes of Manchester City, Real Madrid, and AC Milan.

There is no telling what comes after that point, but at least Romeu now has a second chance. Girona seem convinced that the player can be recovered by them, but they will have to wait a little while longer it seems. For now, Flick needs Romeu to prove himself, both as a favor but also as a necessity of sorts.
