FC Barcelona have already sold Franck Kessie to Al-Ahli and the departure of Ousmane Dembele is also expected to be completed within the coming days. However, the Catalans need to sell still more players to lower their wage bill.

The player whose departure would have the most positive impact on Barcelona’s wage bill is the French defender, Clement Lenglet. The Frenchman spent the last season on loan at Tottenham and has been linked with a permanent move to the London club the entire summer.

Previously it was reported that negotiations between the two clubs have stalled as Barcelona want around €15 million for the player, while Tottenham are willing to offer only €5 million as the player’s wages are already quite high.

SPORT reports that Tottenham had its transfer planning dependent on the future of their captain Harry Kane, who was strongly linked to a move to Bayern Munich this summer. Now, with multiple reports claiming that the transfer of Kane to Munich has been finalized, Spurs can now look towards their other transfer operations.

The report mentions that the Premier League side is going to sign four more players this summer, and their wish list includes a left-footed center-back, with Clement Lenglet being the clear favorite.

Lenglet himself already had an agreement in principle with Tottenham before talks between the two clubs stagnated, and this is one of the reasons the Frenchman did not listen to an offer from Saudi Arabia.

Meanwhile, Barcelona have also been offering the center-back to other European sides, and AC Milan and Juventus both showed an interest in him. However, both these Italian teams wanted Lenglet only on loan, something Barcelona were not open to considering this summer.

Now, Barcelona and Tottenham will make a final push to complete this transfer in the remaining days of the transfer market. His departure from Barcelona would significantly lower the wage bill at the club, and can help them register their new contracts with La Liga.
