It is no secret that FC Barcelona continue to be an attractive destination for the best players regardless of the economic problems that the club has had to force their way through in recent years.
As a result, whenever the Catalan club enters any negotiations their primary pull remains the mere fact that the pedigree of Barcelona persists to this day.
Yet, both sporting and economic decisions combined conclude the final decision made by the club in regards to any new signing, and Barcelona continuously keep evaluating the options they have for the right-back position.
In the most recent of updates provided by Spanish journalist Javi Miguel, Barcelona are currently pondering the option to bring in Argentine Villarreal fullback Juan Foyth to the Catalan capital.
As per the report, the main reasoning behind considering Foyth as a strong option is the fact that he provides a more defensive profile as compared to the explosive attributes of Alejandro Balde, who already commandeers the left flank of the Barcelona defense.
However, simply because Barcelona are in the mindset to consider Foyth as a reasonable candidate to pursue if the situation requires it, it does not automatically mean that La Blaugrana have discarded the options of recruiting Manchester City fullback Joao Cancelo and Real Valladolid fullback Ivan Fresneda.
In the case of Cancelo, Barcelona have already reached a personal agreement with the player as per Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano and several sources claim that the operation for Fresneda is also very advanced.
However, it also remains true that Barcelona have other priorities that they wish to tend to as well, particularly the arrival of a top-level offensive midfielder. For this particular position, another Manchester City star by the name of Bernardo Silva is reported to be the chosen one to reinforce the Barcelona squad.
Xavi Hernandez continues to advocate for the arrival of a top-level right-back, and at the moment it seems that the various options shortlisted by Barcelona all possess their unique perks and benefits supporting their arrival to the Catalan club.
It will be interesting to see how Barcelona finalize their candidate to bring in this summer and who exactly that right-back ends up being, if one is to arrive at all.
