FC Barcelona have been linked with Joao Felix for the last few weeks. The Catalans are currently focusing on signing Joao Cancelo from Manchester City, but their transfer activity would not end there, as they are also likely to go in for Joao Felix before the transfer window closes.
In the meantime, Barcelona will also have to offload some of their own players to create space for the new arrivals in their wage bill. The exit operations have dragged out for the last few weeks, and only Ousmane Dembele, Franck Kessie, and Nico Gonzalez have been sold by the club in the last month, while Dest has also been sent on loan.
Atletico Madrid open to offloading Felix
As SPORT has reported, the stars seem to be aligning for Barcelona to get Felix this summer. While Barcelona have not made a formal offer for the forward yet, the Catalans are aware that Atletico Madrid would not mind a loan with a purchase offer for the Portuguese youngster.
The mattress makers are desperate to offload Felix because the player’s relationship in the dressing room and with the fans is entirely broken. However, Barcelona would make an approach for Felix only if they are able to sell Lenglet and one of their current forwards in the coming days.
Xavi opening up to Felix’s arrival
Meanwhile, Barcelona and Xavi are also getting warmer to the idea of incorporating Joao Felix in the Barcelona squad for this season. Xavi wants a player who can give the final pass in attack, and while he prefers other players, the willingness of all the involved parties to bring Felix to Barcelona can convince Xavi to bet on Felix too.
Joao Felix himself wants to play for Barcelona, and is also willing to lower his salary for this purpose. Barcelona are not rushing into this operation, however, and are in constant communication with the player’s agent, Jorge Mendes.
They see Felix as a market opportunity, but the Catalans are clear that they will sign Felix only if they can offload some of the current forwards in their squad, particularly with the player saturation up top and the low wage bill space.
Mendes is expected to land in Barcelona this week, and in the meeting between the super-agent and Blaugrana executives, the situation of Ansu Fati will also be discussed. The Catalans want Ansu to be departed, but if that is not possible, Ez Abde can be sold to sign and register Joao Felix.
