When compared with the performances of the defense and the midfield, the attacking output of FC Barcelona was not on a similar level this season and had the most room for improvement. The club is working on bringing this improvement to the upcoming transfer window, and two candidates are being considered for this purpose.
According to SPORT, Xavi is looking for a pure winger in the upcoming transfer window and has requested Alemany to procure such a player. In this regard, Alemany is considering two main candidates.
Firstly, there is Ez Abde, who is owned by Barcelona, but played the current season on loan at Osasuna. In this loan spell, the youngster has shown massive development and became an integral part of the Osasuna team.
He played 32 matches this season, scoring six goals and giving two assists, which took his team to the Copa del Rey final, and is also helping them compete for a UEFA Conference League place for the next season.
Another player that the club has a greater preference for is Atletico Madrid’s Yannick Carrasco. Xavi and other Barcelona coaching staff have been impressed by Carrasco’s performances for Atletico this season, particularly his game against Barcelona itself at the Spotify Camp Nou.
The club has the option to purchase him for €15 million, which was put in when they sold Depay to the Madrid side. Thus, the club would have to make a decision on which of these two players they will go into the next season.
Abde can be incorporated into the squad for free. Still, he is also generating interest from other clubs, including Bayer Leverkusen. If a suitable offer comes in for him, the club can use the funds obtained from his transfer to get Carrasco.
Thus, FC Barcelona have a dilemma on their hands on which of the two wingers they want to go ahead into the next season. Abde is still a work in development and has greater potential, but Carrasco is a finished product with significant experience in La Liga, which can come in handy for Xavi in the next season.
