FC Barcelona made a handful of signings last season that catapulted them to significant domestic success in the 2022/2023 season, winning both the Spanish Super Cup and the La Liga title itself as well after a dominant campaign. However, there were a few acquisitions that more or less went under the radar due to several reasons.
One that is quite well-known and debated among the fans of La Blaugrana is Pablo Torre. Coming in from Racing Santander, there was quite the buzz around his acquisition as the successor to Pedri perhaps, yet that would unfortunately not amount to much.
Despite there being obvious talent within the youngster’s game, due to lack of game time under Xavi Hernandez he could not exactly do much with it.
However, there was another signing that was not able to contribute much this season. 21-year-old Julian Araujo, coming in from MLS side LA Galaxy for a fee of around €4 million, was unable to be included in Xavi’s plans at all during the 2022/2023 season due to his contractual situation.
The Mexican fullback is someone who Barcelona are yet to deploy in an official match for the first team or the subsidiary, he has however continued to be considered as more of an honorary Barca Atletic representative in the meantime and continues to partake in training sessions under Xavi Hernandez.
According to a recent report from SPORT, the 21-year-old is expected to make his Barcelona debut in the upcoming friendly match against Vissel Kobe after being named in the squad list for the game. The report further indicates that Xavi has also called up Héctor Fort, Pau Prim, Dani Rodríguez, Unai Hernández, and Marc Guiu for this match.
This friendly would be a perfect opportunity to assess the qualities of the Mexican defender and if he manages to gain the trust of the coaching staff, he could be considered as one of the candidates to reinforce the right-back position amid financial woes.
