Barcelona considers alternative option for departing Football Director

While there certainly exists great news for FC Barcelona from time to time, there is also the occasional dire reality that must be faced.

Football can be a cruel and at times hard to understand phenomena, and there come times when fans are left helpless as they just watch certain figures leave their beloved club. Recently, it is no different, as Barcelona have lost yet another jewel of the club.

As per an official statement by FC Barcelona, Mateu Alemany, current Director of Football for FC Barcelona, is set to leave the Catalan giants on June 30th in order to pursue a project elsewhere, reportedly that elsewhere being English Premier League side Aston Villa.

While he is no star player on the field that would score unsurmountable amounts of goals or provide unreal amounts of assists, he was the backbone of the club behind closed doors and even recently continued to be involved in major transfer negotiations and inquiries.

With the highly valued Director of Football set to leave the side, reportedly due to disagreements over summer signings and Alemany being unconvinced with the project’s plans for the future, FC Barcelona have already begun the hunt to find a suitable replacement for the rather irreplaceable personality of Mateu Alemany.

As per SPORT, the name of Jordi Cruyff is being discussed internally as a good fit for the soon-to-be vacant position. Currently, the sporting director of FC Barcelona and the son of the late Barcelona legend, Johan Cruyff, the 49-year-old has pleased the Board of Directors with his work so far with the club.

Even before Alemany’s expression of wanting to leave, FC Barcelona already reportedly offered Jordi Cruyff the opportunity to take over as the Director of Football as well.

Now, as they plan on having him take over the vacant position while simultaneously continuing on his current post as Sporting Director, the club would also like him to appoint a market expert and helping hand of sorts who would also aid in his work as the new Director of Football.

Until the arrival of said market expert, Jordi Cruyff will maintain extensive executive weight and role in concerned decision-making.
