FC Barcelona continue to be one of the most appealing destinations for any upcoming player to join. However, in recent seasons, the club has increasingly become self-sufficient, thanks to La Masia and the conveyor belt of top talent coming through the academy.

Especially in midfield, Barcelona have numerous options among first-team players and talented individuals poised to break through in the coming years. Therefore, it would be a significant surprise to see the Catalan club enter the market for a new midfielder in the near future.

However, as per SPORT, Barcelona continue to be linked with a transfer for AC Milan midfield star Tijjani Reijnders. This isn’t the first time the Dutchman has been linked with a move to Catalunya, with Manchester City also credited with interest this time.

The report states that although the €30m-rated midfielder insists he is very happy at Milan, the financial offer from the fallen Italian giants does not meet his demands. However, it is difficult to envision him making a move to Barcelona in the near future.

Just this season, Barcelona have witnessed the emergence of Marc Casado and Marc Bernal in the same position that Reijnders plays in. The duo hasn’t put a foot wrong since entering the first-team, although the latter is now out with a serious injury.

Factor in the likes of Pedri, Frenkie de Jong, and Gavi who can all play in the same position, and you are blessed with enough and more talent. There is absolutely no need for Reijnders, irrespective of just how good he can become.

Even in La Masia, players like Pau Prim are working hard and waiting for their opportunity to join the first team. Looking slightly off the beaten path, even the likes of Eric Garcia and Andreas Christensen have played these roles extensively in the past few months.

Thus, there is no rational reason to justify the purchase of Reijnders. It would be a significant surprise if Barcelona were to make a move, but let’s wait and see how it plays out.
