There is no denying the sporting disaster that Barcelona have found themselves in this season. The Blaugranes are currently a careless wreckage of mistakes and misfortunes, whether it be in their hands or not. In either case, Barcelona know they have those problems, but that is just the tip of the iceberg.

Beyond just physical and sporting complacencies, the team continues to lack mentally. Irrespective of the fact that Barcelona is one of the sides this season that scores often in the dying minutes of games, it seems that the team is not as united as some may suggest it to be.

As highlighted by Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona continue to miss their heart and soul in games. MD directly highlights an instance involving 17-year-old defender Pau Cubarsi, who despite the fact that he is among the youngest in the team, was left abandoned by his teammates against Granada.

In a certain play, the Granada goalkeeper accidentally stepped on the foot of Cubarsi during a corner kick setup. Images and videos later revealed that not rewarding a penalty for that was fair, but beyond just the call, it was the inability of the other Barcelona players to show up to Cubarsi’s aid that stands out.

None of his teammates, even when Cubarsi was being swarmed and intimidated by Granada players, actually showed up. The Barcelona players seemed disorganized and mentally broken, to the point where they did not even rush to settle the situation forming and involving around one of their youngsters.

Yet, MD does not forget to mention and remember Gavi in light of this incident. The young Spanish midfielder is known for his hot temper and quick aggression, and it is in vulnerable moments such as this that the tenacious Golden Boy would be the first to rush to the aid of his teammates.

While he remains injured and in recovery, Barcelona continue to miss his presence. Without him, it seems that the team truly lacks the aggression to compete and defend the badge, and Cubarsi’s incident could just be a great subtle hint at that. While Xavi may think he possesses a united dressing room, actions on the field also need to reflect that.
