Unsurprisingly, there is a great excitement about the future of FC Barcelona beyond this season. The Catalan giants have not enjoyed the most comfortable of domestic campaigns, but their European one remains alive. However, after this campaign ends, Barcelona must also address their future.
This includes the assessment of potential transfer operations that Barcelona can conduct in the summer. Some reports highlight players that seem too far-fetched for Barça to follow due to their economic limitations, while others are names far too obscure to consider being additions of any value to an already strong side.
However, as it does often, the rumor mill continues to work nonstop. The latest of those, this time coming through Mundo Deportivo, links Barcelona to a certain striker in the German Bundesliga. This particular forward just so happens to be from neither Bayern Munich nor Borussia Dortmund.
The name in question is that of Benjamin Sesko, who is a 20-year-old striker from Slovenia. Currently, he plies his trade for Bundesliga outfit RB Leipzig. The same side, and to a great extent the same striker, who made life very difficult for Barça’s arch-rivals Real Madrid in the Round of 16 of the UEFA Champions League.
Now, it appears that Sesko’s solid season in Germany is not going unnoticed. A tall and naturally physical center-forward, he exhibits all the traits one would expect of a traditional striker. His stats, while not otherworldly, have been solid as well. In 34 official appearances, he has 11 goals and 2 assists for Leipzig.
However, he currently has a rather sizeable €50 million release clause attached to his name. This price tag is rather troublesome for Barcelona, and MD does report that it seems to be beyond their capabilities for now.
Yet, given the unpredictability of the Catalan club, nothing is ever ruled out. While Barcelona insists on focusing on the ongoing season at hand, few truly believe that their focus is entirely on the now. Instead, very few doubt that those within Barcelona are already assessing carefully the options for their future recruitments.
