FC Barcelona were able to beat some of the biggest clubs in Europe to sign one of the most sought-after Brazilian talents, Vitor Roque, in the last summer transfer window. The young striker is now training under Xavi, and is expected to become a world-class player in the coming years.

However, the Catalans’ business in Brazil is not finished with this signing, as they are now also trying to get another highly-rated teenager, Estevao Willian, nicknamed Messinho, who is one of the most promising players to be playing in the South American country right now.

Barcelona have been following the Palmeiras winger for more than a year now, and have been impressed with how he performed at the Copinha and the U-17 World Cup. Currently, he is not a guaranteed starter for the Palmeiras coach, but that is understandable keeping in view his age.

However, despite this lack of prominence with his club, there is no doubt that Messinho is a special player. As was the case with Vitor Roque, some of the biggest sides are competing with Barcelona for his signing, including Manchester City, Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal, and Paris Saint Germain.

Palmeiras are understandably asking for a high fee for their prized asset, which can make things complicated for Barcelona. However, Mundo Deportivo reports that the Catalans are still making progress for the acquisition of the player. They cite the trusted journalist Fabrizio Romano, who recently claimed that:

“Barça has made very good progress with the entourage of Estevão ‘Messinho’ Willian, that would be the player’s favorite destination.”

Last October, Messinho himself declared in an interview with Mundo Deportivo that his biggest dream was to play for Barcelona. Andre Curry, Vitor Roque’s agent, also sees Barcelona as the ideal club for the youngster, and believes he can be the new Neymar in the coming years.

Thus, despite the competition from some of the biggest European clubs, Barcelona are making progress, and hopefully can win the race to sign the highly promising winger.
