This season has been yet another one in which FC Barcelona continues to play their football away from their real home. For now, the Catalan club continues to use the historic Montjuic Stadium as their home base, the same as they did last season. However, not all will feel the same until Barcelona eventually end up back in the Camp Nou.
Unfortunately, the stadium is still under renovation and the club is waiting for the work being done on it to be wrapped up to a significant extent before the team can return to the famous Camp Nou once again. Until then, however, they must continue to use the Montjuic Stadium.
However, despite it still being under construction, there were hopes that the club could return to the stadium sooner rather than later. In fact, even the Barcelona players themselves dropped enough of a hint for that to be a plausible thing to look forward to.
Now, on the other hand, it seems that there are some divided opinions within the club in regards to this whole belief that the team can return to the Camp Nou at some point in December or even January of next year. According to journalist Laia Tudel (h/t Reshad Rahman), there is a certain pessimism regarding the whole thing within the club for some board members:
“Some board members say during meetings with socis that the new Spotify Camp Nou might not be able to host matches before Christmas and that February looks to be a more realistic target right now.”
This news will likely be frustrating for fans of Barcelona who want to see their team back in the grandeur of the Camp Nou again. While the Montjuic Stadium has served as a good replacement in the meantime, it still does not compare to the feeling of seeing La Blaugrana in the ground where they truly belong.
February, or even January for that matter, are dates that are quite some time away for now. The immediate attention of the team itself will remain on the Champions League, but it does not hurt to dream about seeing Hansi Flick’s Barcelona in action at the new Spotify Camp Nou.
