Despite being one of the biggest clubs in the world, even FC Barcelona has their issues. The Catalan giants are currently riddled with financial problems, and they have lingered since the last few seasons. Now, as a consequence, Barcelona are left in a very unfavorable position within the transfer market.
The primary issues that Barcelona is mainly entangled with are related to Financial Fair play. Due to an inability of the club to generate the required funds, they are often left at a disadvantage when attempting to make signings. However, certain avenues are taken to overcome this to a particular degree.
One such avenue will undoubtedly be the Spanish Super Cup. According to SPORT, the potential two-game tournament will be quite the financial booster for Barcelona. In fact, even without doing much, it will provide the Catalan giants with several millions to make use of.
As per the report, the exact amount that would be allocated to participants will be €6 million. This amount will be given to each of the four clubs taking part for simply being one of the four teams to make it as it is.
Beyond just the base €6 million, there is even more money to be earned. The winner of the Cup, which would only take winning two games consecutively, would be rewarded with an additional €1.5 million. This makes the highest possible winnings around the region of €7.5 million.
The team that finishes as the losing finalist will be granted €1 million. Thus, it would make the runner-up’s winnings amount to €7 million in total. This leaves the gap between the winner and the runner-up’s winnings at only €500,000.
The two teams that lose in the semi-finals will also not be leaving empty handed. Both teams will be given €750,000 each simply for participation. That would ensure €6.75 million as the lowest possible amount that each participating club leaves with.
For Barcelona, the recent win over Barbastro grants them access into the next round of the Copa Del Ray. Now, however, they turn their attention towards Osasuna in the other domestic Cup competition. While the profitability of this competition is attractive, the prospect of winning it also drives Barça forward.
