There could be a possibility for FC Barcelona to profit off one of their former stars who currently plies his trade in France’s Ligue 1 for OGC Nice, where he continues to impress to the point of already having become a multi-million euro valued property that various European clubs have been after.
The player in question is none other than 23-year-old French central defender Jean-Clair Todibo, who has impressed so much so in the French First Division that major European sides have begun to show interest in the former Barcelona defender, with a particular side from the English Premier League hoping to strike a deal for him.
According to Spanish outlet SPORT, Premier League side Manchester United are closing in on a deal for the Frenchman, as has also been reiterated by French outlet L’Equipe, that could see them pay upto €30 million for the services of a player on whom Barcelona has a sell-on clause attached.
As a matter of fact, it is not a sell-on clause worth small percentages, but rather one that would see FC Barcelona pocket 20% of any amount that current club Nice manages to offload Todibo for.
Considering the €30 million that is being widely reported to be the amount for which he will go, Barcelona could look to pocket €6-7 million for themselves, adding that value to the €8.5 million fixed already having been paid by Nice when they acquired the player from Barcelona in 2021.
The player arrived at FC Barcelona in 2019 from former French club Toulouse, but was unable to become a mainstay within the Catalan setup, prompting them to send him out on various loans to German side Schalke 04, Portuguese side SL Benfica and lastly French outfit OGC Nice, where he now permanently resides after the French club activated his buy option.
Barcelona will look to be quite excited about this potential transfer to United given that the Catalan giants have profited heavily over the sale of Todibo over the years after having recruited him initially for little to no external costs.
