Expectations at FC Barcelona remain high and might every coming season, as the Catalan club have a history and pedigree that they must consistently live up to, and that legacy is carried forward by the players who don the shirt and represent the club out on the field.
With the departure of a very important figure in the history of FC Barcelona by the name of Sergio Busquets having been confirmed, the pivot position now remains the biggest concern at the club.
Given the economic state of the club, it becomes complicated for Barcelona to be able to bring in the very elite options in Europe due to the complexity of their transfer fees demanded by current clubs and the Catalans have thus had to look for low-cost alternatives.
And a low-cost alternative they had indeed found. Originally hailing from La Masia, current Girona player Oriol Romeu is the veteran midfielder Barcelona are keeping their eyes upon. While there exists some doubt about if the player is a ‘Barcelona-level’ addition or not should he arrive, at the moment he remains the most likely candidate.
As per Spanish outlet SPORT, the player himself accepts this new challenge at Barcelona and just mainly waits for the agreement between Girona and Barca to be finalized and completed.
Speculation suggests that Girona would prefer that Barcelona pay up the €10 million release clause assigned to the player, but they would possibly be open to a potential player swap if Blaugranes offer a player that suits the interests of Girona.
It remains to be seen if Barcelona opt to go for a player swap or if they will go for the option to pay the player’s release clause. The more economically viable option for the Catalans seems to be a possible swap, but it is still an idea that is still complete speculation.
