There has lately been a great cause for worry at FC Barcelona despite their great form in La Liga. While the Catalan giants have maintained their perfect league record so far with five wins out of five games, the team has continued to be frustrated by their various injuries problems. Even now, five games into the season, Barcelona still has a lengthy list of sidelined players.
Following their recent victory over Girona, Barça suffered yet another frustration with the injury of Dani Olmo. Initially suspected to have been just a muscular overload, new medical tests and the club’s official statements have now revealed that the injury is more severe and will keep the player sidelined for around a month.
However, it would seem that not all is doom and gloom at Barcelona going forward. With their next game being against AS Monaco away from home in their opening UEFA Champions League fixture, Barça could be fortunate enough to have an impactful player make a surprise return.
As highlighted by Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona could end up welcoming back 21-year-old midfielder Fermin Lopez back to the squad for the game against Monaco. Having been injured early in September, the player’s return could now come sooner than expected.
Initially, it was stated that the player would be out for around three weeks to recover from his injury. While an appearance against Monaco may seem early, the youngster has been making good progress in terms of his recovery and he may end up coming back either against Monaco or against Villarreal at the latest.
Either way, it is a great boost for Barcelona to know that Lopez could be back in such timely fashion. Given the untimely injury of Dani Olmo, Fermin’s return could provide Hansi Flick’s team a very dynamic and direct player who could even directly replace Dani Olmo in the starting eleven and provide a positive impact.
Moreover, Ansu Fati also looks to be a player who could return against Monaco as well. In other news, Dutch midfielder Frenkie de Jong also partially rejoined the team’s group training recently while Gavi continues his recovery at a steady pace to return as soon as possible.
