It looked like Barcelona were not going to make any moves in the transfer market on Deadline Day but that could be about to change. The Catalan club could make a late push for a defensive midfielder in the transfer market.
As per French outlet L’Equipe, Barcelona could make a late attempt to try and sign PSG midfielder Danilo Pereira. The Portuguese defensive midfielder is expected to leave the club this summer and Spain could be an option.
PSG are looking to find a way out for the player this summer. The 32-year-old midfielder is not in Luis Enrique’s plans for the season. Having signed the likes of Joao Neves and already having Vitinha, it’s understandable that the Ligue 1 giants don’t want the €8m-rated midfielder.
The biggest problem PSG are facing with shifting out the midfielder is his salary. FC Porto are interested in signing the 32-year-old but his wages are becoming an issue. This is where Barcelona’s name is being mentioned.
PSG are now willing to loan out Pereira and Barcelona could swoop in. The club doesn’t have a natural defensive midfielder after Marc Bernal’s ACL injury and a low-cost option like the 32-year-old for a single season doesn’t hurt.
Danilo Pereira is experienced having played for clubs like Porto and PSG so far in his career. He is predominantly a defensive midfielder but can also do a job in central defense, allowing Barcelona to kill two birds with one stone.
Hansi Flick could use the PSG loanee as a rotation option in not-so-significant games in both positions. This would give the German coach the opportunity to rotate players like Marc Casado and Eric Garcia.
The 32-year-old is not the kind of signing Barcelona should be looking to make. However, desperate times demand desperate measures. Let’s see if a move goes through for Danilo Pereira in the wee hours of the transfer window.
