Undoubtedly, FC Barcelona have not had the best of weeks thus far. The international break is often a time of worry for the various clubs that see their players depart with their nations to play out important, and not so important, games against other nations.

It is not uncommon for such breaks to lead to injuries for various players. Barcelona have often seen these end on a sour note before, and this recent case was no exception. Gavi, one of Barça’s most vital midfielders, returns to the club in such bad shape that he is likely to miss the remainder of the season.

In steps Raphinha, a winger who has his own point to prove. Despite struggling to get any more starts under Xavi this season, there could be a new answer for him. According to AS, Xavi could choose to deploy Raphinha as an interior.

This would make the Brazilian forward a direct replacement for Gavi in the side. His creativity and dribbling prowess will have a lot demanded of them, but the former Leeds United player certainly has the capability to succeed in that position.

The other sad truth for Raphinha is that his preferred right-wing position is currently occupied by other talented stars. Both the resurgent Ferran Torres and the ascending Lamine Yamal have laid their respective claim on that particular position.

Raphinha’s time at Barcelona began on a really good note last season. This campaign, however, has seen the Brazilian play far from his best. Perhaps it is due to the injuries or just tactical changes, Raphinha is trying to find his best form again.

In other news, English side Tottenham Hotspur also continues to be interested in Raphinha’s services. No formal negotiations have taken place thus far, and Barcelona continue to remain adamant that the Brazilian is a player they hope to retain.
