With their finances highly strained, FC Barcelona are making all the possible efforts to raise funds without compromising too much on the sporting aspects. One of the strategies that the club has decided upon for this purpose is of selling fringe players who still have value in the market.
Ansu Fati was one such player whom the club had identified to be fitting this criterion, as he has not been playing a significant part in the club for the last few years but still is wanted by other clubs in Europe. Thus, the Catalans were open to selling him to raise funds, and a swap operation with Wolves for Ruben Neves was also being considered strongly.
However, SPORT reports that this is not the case anymore, as Fati is not on the market now. The club has decided conclusively not to sell him this summer, despite the fact that there were offers on the table for him. The player himself wanted to remain at the club at all costs.
The club President, Joan Laporta, has also denied that the club is pressurizing Fati to leave. He recently commented that “We haven’t asked him to leave, he has a contract. Ansu aims to be much better this season than the previous one, which was almost a recovery period because he suffered a relapse from an injury.”
Furthermore, showing his trust in Fati, the President expressed that both the Spanish national team and FC Barcelona coaches have provided positive reports about Fati’s fitness. He claimed that the player wants to succeed at Barcelona, and his entourage and his agent want him to play more, but his chances in the first team depend on the coach.
He also disclosed that Ansu Fati and Robert Lewandowski are the two top scorers in the training camp currently underway.
Thus, the club seems to have put their confidence back in Ansu Fati after he was strongly forecasted to be moving away from the club. The player now needs to repay this trust by contributing significantly to the team and providing Xavi with a potent weapon in attack that can share the goalscoring burden with Lewandowski.
