Barcelona deems star defenders as “untouchable” – Gerard Romero

Following the immense display that FC Barcelona showcased against Real Betis, positive news has been spiraling across the Catalan media. From Ter Stegen’s record-breaking league season to Lamine Yamal’s similarly record-breaking first-team debut, the good news keeps on coming.

In the most recent of transfer updates by Gerard Romero, he has claimed that FC Barcelona consider the likes of Uruguayan defender Ronald Araujo, Frenchman Jules Kounde, Danish defender Andreas Christensen and Spanish youngster Alejandro Balde as “untouchable” in terms of being sold or placed on the transfer market.

Courtesy of their performances this season, particularly when all four have started together, Barcelona have seemed almost impenetrable when it comes to defending their goal and keeper in net. Araujo’s leadership and strength, coupled with Kounde’s excellent reading and versatility, paired with Christensen’s excellence with the ball at his feet, and Balde’s electric presence, FC Barcelona have solidified themselves to be arguably the best defense statistically across the top 5 European leagues.

The players will be key to Xavi’s plans next season, despite the expected arrivals of other new players that include defensive recruitments as well and will continue to be held in high regard as they have been this season considering their top quality and work rate combined.

While Gerard Romero did also mention that despite being considered untouchable, the club may choose to listen to extreme offers upwards of €90 million should they arrive for the players. Regardless, the journalist did reiterate that Barcelona have no intention of letting them go either way, and those extreme offers would just be an economic opportunity worth studying should they arrive.

FC Barcelona next face CA Osasuna in La Liga Santander on the 2nd of May, right at home in the Spotify Camp Nou. With the return of Andreas Christensen from injury, Barcelona’s main defensive line is now back together again and will hope to maintain even more clean sheets in this final run of fixtures to finalize the 2022/2023 La Liga campaign.
