FC Barcelona fell to a devastating defeat against Paris Saint Germain last night as the Catalans were eliminated from the UEFA Champions League at the quarterfinal stage with a 6-4 scoreline on aggregate.

The Catalans were once the favorites to advance in this tie. They not only enjoyed a one-goal advantage from the first leg, but went another goal ahead as Raphinha scored the opening goal of the match after a pass from Yamal.

However, the defender Ronald Araujo was shown a red card in the 29th minute, which left the Barcelona team one man short of their rivals, and PSG took full advantage of the situation to turn the tie around.

Thus, a lot of blame for this defeat was laid at the Uruguayan defender’s door, with one of the veterans of the team also publicly criticizing him.

Naturally, the defender himself would have been gutted for creating such a hole for his team, and as Mundo Deportivo has reported, he took to social media today to apologize for his mistake and to thank the people who kept supporting him during this difficult time.

The center-back shared a photo of himself in back and white, which was accompanied by the following message:

“The football that gave me so much joy now hits me hard. I thank all those who are unconditionally by my side, my teammates who gave everything on the field, and the fans who believed in this team until the end. I’m really sorry for not giving them this joy. We will try again. Força Barça, now and always!”

Araujo’s message was received well by his teammates, and Cubarsi and Fermin Lopez were among the players who reacted to his message with some words of support. Hopefully, this support will be enough for him to get his spirits high ahead of the crucial match against Real Madrid in La Liga this Sunday.
