FC Barcelona inch closer to the La Liga Santander title with every single passing month. It remains not just the team that marches closer to glory, but also individual performances that deserve credit for their contributions to their respective team’s success. For this very reason, it becomes important to award such individuals with befitting accolades at various points across the season.

After what can be described as a month of rather mixed feelings for the Catalans, April nears its conclusion in the 2022/2023 La Liga season. With 2 wins, 1 loss, and 2 draws, it might not be a particular month Xavi and his squad would look back at rather fondly. However, there exists much positive news to uncover as well.

Across the 4 league games that FC Barcelona have participated in during the month thus far, their most recent being a 1-0 victory over Atletico Madrid at the Spotify Camp Nou, they have managed to concede not even once. The 4-0 victory over Elche, followed by two 0-0 draws against Girona and Getafe, and a 1-0 victory over in-form Atletico Madrid, serve as absolute evidence of just how well organized and drilled Barca’s defense has been this season.

At the helm of this outrageous defensive security for the Catalans is none other than their Uruguayan star defender Ronald Araujo. The central defender has been selected and nominated for the La Liga Player of the Month award for the month of April courtesy of his defensive heroics.

Apart from Barcelona’s star defender, the other nominees also have their respective says and eyes set on the prize. These nominees include, in no particular order, Athletic Bilbao’s Inaki Williams, Atletico Madrid’s Antoine Griezmann, and Real Madrid’s Marco Asensio. Sevilla’s Youssef En-Nesyri, Real Valladolid player Selim Amallah and lastly Mallorca’s Lee Kang-In.

Sponsored and presented by EA Sports, the award could be a massive individual boost for Araujo, who is indefinitely a deserving candidate should he win. The winner will be decided after a period of voting has commenced and then the fan-chosen Player of the Month will be announced.
