Injuries have been a consistent problem for FC Barcelona in recent times and the consequences have been rather frustrating as well. Unfortunately, some of these cases are beyond the control of the club and end up becoming quite problematic, both in the short and long term. However, Barcelona has tried its best to manage them as much as possible in the past.
Still, despite their best efforts, the Catalan giants have often had to deal with these injuries as well as they can by making use of the players available at their disposal already. This can often lead to Barcelona either struggling with said injuries or getting away with them without too many consequences.
Certain injuries, however, force the club to make some moves in the market even if they are not ideal. Marc-Andre Ter Stegen’s injury was one such case, and it ended up with Polish goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny signing for the Catalan giants during the season.
Now, however, a recent update suggests that a previously long-term injury will take even longer for the player to come back from. According to Laia Tudel, 28-year-old Barcelona defender Andreas Christensen has undergone another surgery on both of his tendons and it will now keep him sidelined for another two months.
This time around, the Danish defender has opted for ‘cellular regenerative therapy’ and this procedure will now likely keep him sidelined until next year, most probably till the end of January 2025. However, this could also have other implications beyond just sporting ones.
For one, it was due to Christensen’s unavailability that players like Dani Olmo and Pau Victor were finally registered. Now, with his return still taking some more time before he eventually becomes available for Hansi Flick again, it remains to be seen what happens to the pending registrations in January.
Secondly, there were reports suggesting that Christensen will no longer be a part of Barça’s plans moving forward. This meant that a departure in either January or the summer could end up taking place. However, with the player now sidelined, it will likely result in a January move now looking unlikely compared to if he was fully fit and available.
