As FC Barcelona look to salvage the most out of any expendable assets that they currently possess, one that may end up being a massive opportunity for them at this stage of his career would be Samuel Umtiti.

Currently on loan at Lecce in the Italian Serie A, where the side is safely in 16th position and has managed to avoid relegation. The French defender, on loan from Barcelona, played a particularly pivotal part in their struggle to stay afloat in the First Division of Italian football.

With 12 appearances out of the final 13 games of the season, as well as 24 appearances in total in Serie A during the 2022/2023 season, his contributions have been massive.

In recent reports as per Italian news outlet Tutto Mercato Web, the French central defender, courtesy of his strong performances in Italy throughout the season, has garnered interest from the likes of various other Italian clubs who could seriously consider permanently acquiring his services while he’s in such top form.

Moreover, the report states that as a result, the parent club FC Barcelona would likely prefer to take advantage of this favorable situation and will consequently hold talks with Samuel Umtiti soon to finalize and conclude the plan for his future.

With the likes of new and upcoming central defenders such as Ronald Araujo, Jules Kounde and Alejandro Balde having become faces of this revolution at FC Barcelona alongside additional new reinforcements, there is not much left to be said in the case of Umtiti’s importance at Barca and under Xavi, despite 3 years still left to be played out on his contract.

Ideally, the Catalan club would like to make any possible revenue that they can on his sale, alongside the sale of another French Barcelona defender on loan at Tottenham Hotspur in the English Premier League, Clement Lenglet, who Spurs have even publicly shown interest towards in making him a permanent acquisition.
