FC Barcelona had a tremendous victory over Villareal last night, which provided them with a clear gap of 11 points over their La Liga rivals Real Madrid. However, this game, also had one significant negative point for La Bluagrana, the suspension of Ronald Araujo for the next La Liga match.
Despite Villareal putting up a fight with the league leaders, FC Barcelona turned out to be the winners in the La Liga match last night, with a goal from Pedri in the middle of the first half. Having gone behind, Villareal tried their best to get an equalizer but were kept at bay by the astute Barcelona defense made up of Kounde, Araujo, Christensen, Balde, and Ter Stegen.
The victory was the 11th in a row for Xavi, and put FC Barcelona on a clear way to winning their first La Liga title in years. However, Ronald Araujo picked up a yellow card for a handball in the 43rd minute of the match. This was Araujo’s fifth yellow card booking in La Liga this season, and as a result, he will be suspended for the next Liga tie against Cadiz.
Ronald Araujo has been one of the main pillars for La Blaugrana’s defense this season, as was amply displayed by his performance last night. However, the team is more than well covered in this area as Jules Kounde and Andreas Christensen are also having a great season and will be able to cover Araujo’s absence for this match.
